Geelong is pretty awesome and about a 40–50 minute drive from Melbourne, making it a lovely day trip if you’re looking to fill a day with op shopping!

I go to Geelong about once a month, and I always make a beeline for Valerie’s Pantry for dried goods, flour, oats, nuts and such. It’s a wonderfully nostalgic, affordable and zero-waste way to shop — I rock up with my wicker basket and empty jars and simply refill them from the bins and barrels. I love it!

On the outskirts of Geelong there’s a lovely strip of op shops, and I especially love the massive Brotherhood of St Laurence and Salvation Army Thrift Store. I also recommend a walk along the boardwalk and a ride on the old-school merry-go-round. A lovely day trip!

  • Geelong is also home to a huge Vintage Marketplace — two massive warehouses packed with curios, collectibles and second-hand treasures. You could easily spend an hour here!

  • Brotherhood has an amazing range of furniture — it’s huge.

  • Salvos also has good furniture.
