The Jail, St Bathans is the ideal place to stay when you visit this sleepy gold mining village in Central Otago, New Zealand.
The Jail was established in 1884 in the prime of the gold mining boom in the late 1800’s. With all its original trappings including the heavy steel jail door & the original ‘ball and chain’ from the era.

Steeped in history is St Bathans with its heritage buildings, The Vulcan Hotel, & The Blue Lake all within walking distance from the Jail.
An easy 8min drive away is the decadent deciduous Cambrians Common Forest which swells with wild flowers in Autumn, Summer and Spring.
Snow will be delightful and the lake ices over in deep winter.
This truly is an all year round paradise.
